‘Yes, I’m the father’: Moment Alexee Trevizo’s teenage boyfriend is interviewed by cops in hospital after she gave birth to their baby son and dumped him in the trash
- Alexee’s boyfriend Devyn Fierro was interviewed by police on January 27
- Neither he nor his mother told police on camera if they knew she was pregnant
- Alexee is due to stand trial later this year on charges of first degree murder
The baseball playing boyfriend of Alexee Trevizo, the New Mexico teen charged with murdering her baby, was filmed telling police he was the infant’s father after she wrapped him in plastic bags and dumped him in a hospital bathroom trash can.
Alexee, who insists she didn’t know she was pregnant when she gave birth on January 27 at Artesia General Hospital, will stand trial later this year for murder and tampering with evidence.
She went to the hospital with her mother claiming she was suffering back pain, but insisting she’d never had sex.
After giving birth in secret in a locked patient bathroom, she wrapped her baby boy in a plastic trash bag and put him in the waste bin, where a cleaner later found him. He was dead upon discovery.
In the chaotic aftermath of that discovery, police interviewed Alexee’s boyfriend, Devyn Fierro, and his mother, Melanie.
Devyn Fierro and his mother Melanie are shown in the hospital on January 27. He nodded when police asked if he was the father, and told cops he and Alexee had been together for nearly three years
The interview took place at 4.22am on January 27, around two hours after Alexee gave birth
Devyn has not been charged with any crime. Alexee will return to court in September
At no point during the publicly-available video of the interview did Devyn confirm whether or not he knew Alexee was pregnant.
Her mother, Rosa Rodriguez, emphatically told staff at the hospital and the police that they did not know she was pregnant.
Devyn told police that Alexee had been complaining about having hip and lower back pain.
His mother, Melanie, was quiet throughout the interview.
January 27: Trevizo and her mother, Rosa Rodriguez, in the hospital. They both insisted they did not know she was pregnant when police confronted them about finding the infant’s body in a trash can
Videos taken on January 6 – three weeks before she gave birth – show Alexee Trevizo, 19, cheerleading with an enormous baby bump. On January 27, she gave birth in secret and dumped the infant’s body in a hospital trash can. Now, she is charged with murder
Rosa, her mother and her stepfather, were more visibly emotional and upset.
After giving birth on January 27, Alexee was allowed to return home and back to school.
She and Devyn even attended prom in April, posing for photos with a local photographer.
She was arrested in May after an autopsy report revealed the baby boy had air in his lungs when he died, suggesting he may have been alive and breathing when he was born.
Alexee had told police he was stillborn.
After being arrested, the 19-year-old was bonded out of jail and allowed to return to school again.
She is on track to graduate before she must return to court in September to face trial.
Cleaning lady Dia Lewis was the first to find the baby. She was called to the bathroom by nursing staff who feared Alexee had had a miscarriage
