Alicia Keys discusses the rewards of motherhood and her ‘chill’ plans for holidays ‘safe at home’
15-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys recently discussed the rewards of motherhood as well as her ‘chill’ plans for the holidays.
The 38-year-old native New Yorker and her husband Swizz Beatz are parents of nine-year-old son Egypt Daoud and son Genesis Ali, who turns 5 on December 27.
‘Motherhood, I find, makes you look at yourself in a way that is a mirror like no other that you’ve been presented with before,’ Alicia told People on Thursday.

‘I think [motherhood] is equally as challenging as it is rewarding and I think that’s part of the reward. You have to really look at yourself.’
Keys (born Cook) loves to see her two little men being strong-minded and expressing their own thoughts and opinions.
‘Seeing them being empathetic and having these character traits that you’re hoping that you’re sharing with them and they’re receiving,’ the biracial R&B belter noted.
Alicia is also stepmother to the 41-year-old rapper’s three older children (by three different women) – son Prince Nasir, 19; son Kasseem Dean, Jr., 13; and daughter Nicole, 11.

‘I love to just chill at home. I think that’s kinda what the holidays are about in a lot of ways, just having it become more quiet,’ Keys said of her plans.
‘I personally love the comfort of just being with your friends and family and safe at home. That’s what I’m looking forward to.’
The Time Machine songstress knew the Grammy winner (born Kasseem Dean) back when they were both teenagers.
The former piano prodigy was raised in Hell’s Kitchen by her paralegal mother Teresa Augello after her flight attendant father Craig Cook left when she was 2.
