Residents in Los Angeles believed they were experiencing a close encounter of the third kind, after witnessing what appeared to be an extraterrestrial lighting storm
One says: ‘It really looks like a horror movie, with aliens.’
Another adds: ‘I’ve never seen lightning like that before in my life. It’s too fast for normal lightning to strike. I’ve seen it on TV, when aliens are behind it. Lightning doesn’t strike that fast.’
Sharing the puzzling footage online, Kevin Mize said: ‘Strange lights definitely not lightning with no thunder accompanying this.
‘This went on for at least a half hour through the clouds looking east from our front yard in Granada Hills.
‘Please shed some light here that definitely looks extraterrestrial.’
Not everyone was convinced aliens were involved however, as one YouTube user named Daniel Garcia suggested it was a meteor shower.

Another suggested it could have been a military test, posting: ‘It might be a weather cloud or the military doing some weapon test.’
But one person reassured the Mr Mize by saying: ‘That is just a lightning storm.
‘You can’t hear anything because you’re way far away from it and sometimes these lightning strikes don’t even produce any sounds.’
