Allan Saint-Maximin reveals meeting with ‘very happy’ Newcastle owners after pulsating 3-3 draw with Man City as the winger credits Eddie Howe with advancing Newcastle’s fortunes, admitting: ‘He changed everything here’

Allan Saint-Maximin has praised boss Eddie Howe and said that the Englishman ‘changed everything’ at Newcastle after he arrived.

Howe joined the Tyneside side last November. arriving at a club in serious danger of being dragged into a relegation scrap but the former Bournemouth manager dragged them to a solid mid-table finish. 

Speaking to the Newcastle Chronicle ahead of the club’s weekend fixture away at Wolves on Sunday and in the aftermath of a thrilling 3-3 draw with champions Manchester City, Saint-Maximin said that the club needed to ‘keep going’ in its pursuit of its aims this campaign.

‘He changed everything here, the mentality, the training and we can see everything starts to work. We need to keep going and see what happens,’ he said. 

‘We have just played against Man City and you saw that, if we play like that against every team – for sure we have the chance (for Europe),’ the mercurial French wide player went on to add. 

‘That is the difficult part, we need to keep going and play like that. That is what the manager tries to do, he helps the team a lot.’

The 25-year-old, who joined the club from Nice in 2019, revealed a meeting with the club’s Saudi-backed owners and said that they are ‘very happy’ with how he is playing at the moment.

 ‘They are very happy to see me play like that,’ he said. ‘They trust me and believe in me. It is good to see that because they know what I am capable to do. Everyone here at the training ground knows what I am capable to do.’

Meanwhile. Saint-Maximin, who impressed against City with his direct running said that his team-mates are trying to help him improve as they go in search of a lofty finishing position under Howe. 

‘My team-mates help me a lot, they know what I am capable to do. Even defensively, they just try to help me to improve,’ he said. 

‘I am not alone and to do what I am capable I need space and players to move. I need more options and they give me that at the moment so I say thank you to them – I will keep going.’
