Alysha Koloi: Aussie Paris Olympics star posted an innocent photo to social media – and what happened next will make you furious

  • Alysha Koloi has won through to the semifinals in Paris
  • Queenslander is competing in the 3m springboard event

Australian Olympic diver Alysha Koloi has been bombarded with awful sexist comments after posting a simple photo of herself competing during the Paris Games.

The 22-year-old contested the three-metre springboard event in France, making the semifinal after finishing 16th in the preliminaries.

On Thursday she posted a throwback photo showing her looking over her shoulder with her back to the camera while she was competing at a meet in Canada, accompanied by the caption ‘next step’ – prompting a long line of sick sexist comments.

Remarks such as, ‘Next step make an of [OnlyFans account]’, ‘I’d rather be swimming with you’ and ‘wipe me down’ were among the tamer responses to the post.

Other commenters sarcastically ignored Koloi’s sporting credentials – which include gold at the World Aquatic Championships in February – to focus exclusively on her looks.

‘I’m actually a big fan of whatever sport you compete in,’ one wrote.

‘Always loved this sport. What is it by the way?’ another added.

‘Which sport are you competing for? I want to watch with keen interest,’ wrote a third commenter.

Daily Mail Australia has chosen not to publish several other replies to the post.

Koloi’s 16th-place finish in Paris would have been much higher but for one slight mistake in her fourth dive.

‘I’m actually pretty proud of how I competed,’ she told News Corp after her effort in the prelims.

‘I had one little slip-up but I’m not disappointed by my consistency at all.

‘I’m proud of how I held myself together and really happy I’m through to the semis.’

If the 22-year-old can repeat her form from this year’s World Championships in Qatar, she could medal in Paris.

She took the one-metre springboard title after leaping into the lead with the fourth of her five dives at the event, but the powerhouse Chinese team wasn’t competing in order to focus on the Games in France.

Koloi – who hails from Brisbane – also finished fifth in the synchronised 3m springboard event at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup in 2023 – is a former gymnast.
