Throwing a fishing net into the water might sound easy – but to do it properly takes skill, as this video footage reveals.

It shows an unnamed fisherman in a park demonstrating how to throw a gigantic cast net and pulling off the technique with mesmerising grace and precision.

The clip has reeled in a huge number of views, with over 40,000 people watching it on YouTube.

It has also been uploaded to Imgur, with dozens of users commenting on how impressive the throw is.

Infectsall665 said simply ‘this is art’, kidtutty chimed in with ‘well color me impressed’ and sofarfromheaven wrote ‘damn, that IS impressive’.

The radii of cast nets varies, with the smallest being around four feet and the largest 12 feet.

They are normally used to snare foraging fish and once cast sink courtesy of weights placed around the edge.

An attached hand line is then used to pull the net back in.

The action needed to throw them is a bit like that used in hammer throwing.

But careful preparation is the key.

Throwers must make sure that the net is not tangled and is pulled in tightly to the elbow.

Last year hilarious footage emerged showing how easy it is to get wrong, with a fisherman in Florida filmed getting his net caught on his boat mid-throw and falling in the water.
