Amazon Australia launches recruitment campaign to hire seasonal workers ahead of mid-year sales

Amazon Australia has launched a recruitment drive to hire 1,400 seasonal workers ahead of the mid-year sales and no prior experience is necessary.

The tech giant launched the massive campaign on Monday to boost their workforce ahead of the end of financial year sales period in June and the Prime Day shopping event in July.

Hundreds of staff will be hired to work at Amazon fulfilment centres and logistics sites across Australia to pick, pack and ship orders from the warehouses to customers.

Amazon Australia launched the hiring blitz to keep up with customer demand with the busy sales period now just weeks away.

‘We offer all kinds of jobs for all kinds of people and are focused on creating a safe and inclusive workplace for them,’ Amazon Australia human relations operations director Jacqui Marker said.

‘We have 1,400 roles to fill with motivated and enthusiastic people looking for a short-term role.

‘We provide on-the-job training so no previous experience or formal qualifications are required and Prime Day always promises to be an exciting time of year.’

Prime Day is Amazon’s annual shopping event offering discounts exclusively for members on a huge range of products.

‘As Australians continue to grapple with rising living costs and seek ways to stretch their budgets, we are working hard to secure huge savings for members this Prime Day,’ Amazon Prime director Arno Lenior added.

Successful job applicants will be deployed at fulfilment centres across Australia.

Half of the 1,400-strong workforce will be deployed at sites in NSW.

Amazon seeks 300 workers in Victoria while Queensland and WA needs 200 and 130 respectively.

The remaining 70 staff will work at centres in South Australia and Tasmania.

Flexible working arrangements are also on offer through Amazon Flex.

The side hustle which will allows workers to deliver packages using their own vehicles at their own convenience.

Permanent full-time positions with Amazon are also up for grabs. Perks include life, income protection and health insurance.

Samparpan Kapoor, who became a full-time employee after he first started out as a seasonal worker, said the job is rewarding.

‘Our team is so diverse, with people from all sorts of backgrounds and experiences,’ he said.

‘I learn something new on the job every day.

‘We get additional training and educational support to help us develop and grow.

‘Working at Amazon is what you make of it – there are so many opportunities available, it’s up to you to take them.’

Applications for the seasonal jobs are now open.

The jobs campaign comes after Amazon Australia announced last year that it would build the nation’s largest fulfilment centre at a site in Craigieburn, in Melbourne’s north.

The facility which is set to open by 2025 will be as big as the size of 11 Melbourne Cricket Grounds and will be operated by a fleet of robots.

The four-storey building will be constructed on a mammoth 209,000 square meter plot of land and will cost $8.4 billion to build.

Amazon has been restructuring the business over recent years which has lead to lay-offs that has affected workers across the world.

The company announced earlier this year that hundreds of staff from several businesses including PrimeVideo and Twitch, would be let go to reduce costs.
