Amazon scraps Weinstein-produced show with Julianne Moore

Amazon announced on Friday that they were dropping a dramatic series that Harvey Weinstein’s The Weinstein Company was producing.

The scrapped series was supposed to star Oscar winners Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore, with Academy Award-nominated director David O. Russell at the helm.

De Niro, Moore and Russell issued a statement on Friday saying, ‘We support Amazon’s decision as in light of recent news and out of respect for all those affected we have decided together that it is best to not move forward with this show.’

Amazon last year plunked down $160 million for two seasons of the series in a deal brokered by Weinstein and Roy Price, according to Deadline.

The Amazon Studios head Price was suspended indefinitely Thursday amid accusations he propositioned Isa Hackett, a female producer working on The Man in the High Castle.

Amazon exec Craig Berman on Tuesday said the studio was ‘reviewing our options for the projects we have with The Weinstein Company,’ the outlet reported.

The Jeff Bezos owned company also said that it ‘intends to move forward without the involvement of The Weinstein Company’ on The Romanoffs, a $70 million series from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner.

The Romanoffs, slated to kick off with eight hour-long episodes, details descendants of Russia’s Romanov family, with each episode slated to tell separate stories with different performers each show.

The decision comes at the end of a week in which the scandal swirling around the mercurial movie-maker, 65, exploded.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie added their names to the list of around 30 women who have come forward to detail their experiences of sexual harassment or assault at the hands of the film producer.

While Weinstein has admitted to unprofessional behavior that has ’caused a lot of pain,’ his rep said that he steadfastly denies ‘any allegations of non-consensual sex.’
