For instance, a proposal scene may be flagged up by words such as ‘diamond’, ‘ring’ and ‘kneel’.
Audible’s machine-learning also creates a ‘Steaminess Score’, which shows the level of graphic details that a listeners can expect.
The Steaminess Score is an illustrated meter on each page that ranks titles on a one to five scale, labelled Sweet, Simmering, Sizzling, Hot Damn, and O-O-OMG.
O-O-OMG will be used for passages in steamy books such as EL James’s Fifty Shades of Grey, where the protagonist Anastasia Steele says: ‘Suddenly he grabs me, tipping me across his lap.
‘With one smooth movement, he angles his body so my torso is resting on the bed beside him.’
