American comedian blasts Barnaby Joyce over his affair

Barnaby Joyce has been slammed for his ‘family values’ by comedian John Oliver on US national television in the wake of the Deputy Prime Minister’s affair with a now-pregnant staffer.

On television show ‘Last Week Tonight’ the Deputy Prime Minister was made a laughing stock as Oliver mocked his ‘incredible family values’.

‘You may think that is hypocritical but reality, Joyce has such incredible family values that he can’t restrict them to just one family,’ he told a laughing audience.

Mr Joyce’s affair with former staffer Vikki Campion was examined by the comedian who joked as he showed media clips from Australia.

‘The Australian media has understandably jumped on this story like a Deputy Prime Minister with a wife and four children jumping on his 33-year-old former media adviser.’

Ms Campion’s grey-bearded father even featured on the show and was likened to Santa Claus as they showed him saying that Mr Joyce should be ‘roasting on a spit’.

‘I think that might be  the most Australian man who has ever lived,’ Oliver said to fits of laughter.

‘In Australia they don’t actually have Santa Claus, they just have that guy coming down your chimney whether you’ve been bad or good and he just beats you with a newspaper.

Referring to Australia’s postal plebiscite, Oliver highlighted the hypocrisy of Joyce opposing same sex marriage.

‘Joyce is a social conservative who opposed same sex marriage in their referendum last year because he believes in traditional family values,’ he said.

The comedian wasn’t just having a dig at Joyce however, he also used the story to attack Australians in general.

’70 per cent of Australia in uninhabitable because of desert and 30 per cent is uninhabitable because of Australians,’ he said.

Oliver reminded the audience it was not the first time Joyce had featured on the program.

‘We’ve talked about Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce before, you may remember he threatened to euthanize Johnny Depp’s illegally impounded dogs  pistol and boo.’
