Official data shows more than 900,000 Americans were hired in March as job market rebounds from Covid crisis

More than 900,000 Americans were hired in March as the job market began to rebound from the Covid crisis, official data shows. 

The US unemployment rate fell slightly to 6 per cent, down from 6.2 per cent in February, equivalent to 9.7m people.

Eleven months ago, unemployment in the world’s biggest economy was 14.7 per cent, the highest since the 1930s. 

The hospitality and entertainment industries have been among the worst-hit sectors.
