American soldier couple in their 40s were both found dead in Venice in ‘murder-suicide’

An American couple in their 40s was found dead in their Venice home Monday afternoon in apparent murder-suicide. 

The couple have not been identified, but both the man and his wife were former soldiers stationed in Vicenza, according to Stars and Stripes. 

Authorities said they believe the deaths resulted from a murder-suicide.

Italian investigators said it appeared that the man had killed his wife then slit his own throat.

The woman’s body was found in bed and the man’s body was found in the bathroom. 

A Caserma Ederle chaplain alerted authorities after the husband had not returned numerous calls. 

The chaplain told authorities that the husband was suffering from depression. 

US Garrison Italy officials said the man was a contractor, according to Stars and Stripes. 

The deaths are being investigated by Italian authorities.
