Amy Dowden reveals her happiness as she shows off her hair growth and gives a health update amid her breast cancer battle

Amy Dowden gave a health update on Instagram on Sunday as she revealed her hair has started to regrow after she lost it during chemotherapy.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional, 33, was told she had breast cancer in May 2023 and underwent a mastectomy before doctors discovered she was also battling another form of cancer and would need further treatment.

The dancer said she is feeling ‘happy’ with her hair growth as she looked back at the difference from when she was having treatment.

Beaming for the selfie while sat in her car, Amy held up a thumb to the camera and said: ‘It’s been a little while so I thought I’d show you my hair growth.

‘Makes me happy to see the difference and looking back. It’s coming.’

She also revealed she was at the hospital on Sunday for an MRI, and she hoped the scan would be her last ‘for awhile’.

The dancer announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in an Instagram post shared in May 2023 and underwent a mastectomy in July.

Since then Amy has shared regular health updates on Instagram. She battled sepsis at one point during her chemo treatment as well as a blood clot on her lung.

She also broke her foot toward the end of the year and her chemotherapy and then the injury meant Amy was forced to sit out most of the 2023 series of Strictly and was not partnered with a celeb.

She did make a number of appearances during the series though, including an emotional moment in the finale group dance.

It comes after Amy jetted off on holiday to Grenada with her husband Ben’, marking her trip away since she was diagnosed with cancer in 2023.

Amy, who tied the knot with Ben in 2022, found a lump in her breast the day before she flew to the Maldives for a belated honeymoon in April 2023.

Amy admitted she felt ‘bitter’ seeing other people’s 2023 highlights on New Year’s Eve amid her breast cancer battle.

Amy broke down in tears last year when she had to shave her head

She appeared on Lorraine as she spoke about how she felt entering 2024 and her ‘jealousy’ over seeing posts.

Speaking on Lorraine in an update at the start of January she candidly said: ‘After New Year’s Eve when you wake up and see everyone’s posts – I was actually quite bitter.

‘My life changed on the day of the diagnosis but cancer changes you forever, it’s changed me as a person.

‘I’ve lost a boob and my hair, I’ve had sepsis, been into shock, blood clots, I’ve broken my foot. I saw everyone doing these nice reels and I was quite jealous to be honest.’
