Police are currently searching for owners of a ‘crazed’ dog that attacked an American tourist while she was running on a popular beach.
Maya Kidan, 29, was getting some exercise and fresh air on New Brighton Beach, just north of Brunswick Heads, when a German shepherd attacked her on Friday.
The attack left her with several open wounds on her thigh and significant bruising which were treated in Byron Bay Hospital.

Her friend Yonit Plotnik uploaded pictures of the incident to Byron Bay’s Community Board on Facebook and explained that the dog’s owners ‘literally left her there bleeding by herself.’
It was only the kindness of a total stranger that saw Ms Kidan driven to hospital for vaccinations, antibiotics and pain killers.
‘Attention! Our friend from overseas was badly bitten today by a massive German shepherd while running on New Brighton beach around 14:30,’ the post began.
‘Luckily a nice lady saw everything and reached out to help and drove her home after the owners literally left her there bleeding by herself.

‘Please if anyone knows a mature couple with two big German shepherds tell them to take responsibility for there actions and contact us immediately so we can be sure the dogs are vaccinated.’
Ms Kidan was treated for five gashes and two deep flesh punctures and was forced to stay in hospital over the weekend to allow the wounds time to bleed out and avoid infection.
‘If you’re the nice lady that brought her home thank you so much,’ the post continued.
‘It’s good to know some good people are around and not only careless and selfish ones.

‘Any piece of information will be much appreciated, please help us prevent this from happening again to someone else, I don’t even want to imagine what would have happened if it was a little kid or a an old person.’
According to the Daily Telegraph Ms Kidan was ‘screaming’ after the attack and asking the owners if the dogs were ‘healthy and vaccinated’, to which the reply was ‘you’ll be fine.’
The owners then disappeared into the surrounding bush.
Tweed-Byron Chief Inspector Gary Cowan said police were investigating the incident.
