An In-Depth Look at Some of the Different Styles of Shower Enclosures You Can Have

Everyone knows – and loves – spending time in the shower. It’s one of the quickest and easiest ways to be clean and hygienic, and there’s something truly relaxing and invigorating about the continuous water spray.

But although everyone can agree that a shower is necessary, especially for the modern bathroom, you should know that there is a lot of diversity in the type of shower you can have for your bathroom space.

Whether you are building one from scratch or are engaged in an entire remodeling project, you can choose different showers – be it the shape and size of the shower enclosure or even the way the showerhead looks and feels!

You can select from pre-fabricated or customized ones – it’s all up to you (and your budget, of course). So what are the different styles out there? Here’s an in-depth look at the different shower enclosures you can have.

Pre-fab and customized

The first on the list is the pre-fabricated or pre-made shower and the fully-customized shower.

The pre-fab is made in a factory and consists of panels or sheets that come as a single piece or several pieces, and they are delivered straight to your door, and you can install them yourself.

Of course, costs can differ, but they are often less pricey than the custom-made shower.

Customized units are just that – they are designed with your exact specifications, and everything is built from scratch – from the tiles to the showerhead to the drain.

Needless to say, it involves more detail, and you have to work with a professional, but if you have the budget (and the patience) for it, you can choose any size, style, material, or color you want.

Curved or quadrant shower enclosures

Curved or quadrant shower enclosures are excellent if your bathroom is on the small side, and the curved paneling allows for more space – but it still has enough space within for you to move around.

Since it is in a curved or quadrant shape, you can easily place it in an alcove or a corner of your bathroom, and the shower enclosure also has a shower door that’s curved as well – sliding open gracefully in an arc to provide easy access – and it doesn’t encroach on the available space.

Glass shower enclosure

This enclosure is partly customized, with the shower fixtures already mounted on the wall.

The shower walls are often made of ceramic or tile, with a shower tray made of tile. The glass enclosures are secured with clips made of metal at the corners, and the glass panels are frameless, which gives the illusion of openness and airiness.

They are elegant and can also be an excellent choice for those with mobility issues or who need wheelchair access.

Corner enclosures

Corner enclosures are a great alternative to the standard enclosure, and when you view them from the top, they consist of a square-shaped shower along with two panels of a glass of equal lengths, and one of the panels or sheets has a door that pivots on a hinge.

They are also a viable choice if you want to save on space since you can tuck them neatly away in a corner of your bathroom, and they help you conserve bathroom space.
