Have you been feeling like you are stuck in life?
Do you admire certain successful people in your field and wish you could replicate it in your own life?
The good news is that there is a formula to help you overcome whatever is hindering you from attaining your full potential so that you can actually achieve your personal and professional goals. We are talking about Neuro-Linguistic Programming, popularly known as NLP.
NLP gives you powerful self-development techniques to change your mindset, behavior, and life.
Safe to say, NLP training is one of the best investments you can make for your own development or even to advance your career. But let’s take a step back. What is NLP, how does it work, and what are its benefits?
NLP: An Overview
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a school of thought based on the belief that thoughts, language, and behavioral patterns are connected and can be learned or changed to achieve desired goals.
More specifically, it involves studying the strategies of successful people and then replicating them to reach personal goals.
NLP has three main areas:
- Neuro- refers to the brain or mind and its role in communication and behavior.
- Linguistic- this part refers to language, verbal and non-verbal. In NLP, language is the primary tool in understanding how the mind works.
- Programming- this is where the action takes place. Programming refers to changing the mind and body to align with particular goals.
NLP is founded on believing that our emotions, feelings, and thoughts do not passively happen to us. Instead, they are things we can “program” or control.
How Does NLP Work?
NLP believes that people operate using internal maps built over time from sensory experiences, that is, visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, or kinesthetic. These experiences are processed by what’s known as a primary representational system (PRS).
In a professional setting, an NLP practitioner gathers information through language, spoken and unspoken, to identify a person’s PRS and, consequently, understand their inner map.
By understanding a person’s inner world, that is, their feelings, attitudes, and mindset, NLP starts to reshape it.
The eventual goal of NLP is to find and change unconscious limitations and biases in a person’s mental/ internal map. While this field is still growing, it is already being used to treat various issues, including phobias, communication problems, panic and anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and many more.
