Nixon and Davis, both 55, return as Miranda Hobbs and Charlotte York, alongside Parker’s fashion obsessed columnist Carrie Bradshaw for the series, filmed in New York City.

Facts: With just days before the next chapter of Sex and the City debuts on HBO Max, And Just Like That… stars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis revealed some intriguing facts about the show on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

And with just days before the show airs the pair confirmed the persistent rumour that they filmed fake scenes all over the city in order to confuse onlookers and prevent the show’s overarching plot being prematurely revealed.

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the actresses also discussed their late co-star Willie Garson, who filmed the first three episodes of the show before he passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer in September at 57 years of age.

The franchise has a devoted fan base after the original series that ran six seasons from 1998 to 2004, along with two feature films, with Colbert asking the co-stars about a rumor he had heard.

The talk show host revealed that he wasn’t even allowed to show a clip of the series, before asking if it was true that they filmed, ‘fake scenes to throw people off the scent to try to stop people from knowing what the plot of the series is.’

‘Yes, definitely!’ Davis exclaimed, while Nixon shook her head with a wry smile and said, ‘Absolutely not.’

Colbert pointed at Davis and said, ‘I believe you,’ and when Colbert asked again, Nixon shrugged and conceded, ‘It might be true.’

Fans were outraged after photos that surfaced from the set in Paris, where Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw was seen kissing a new character played by Jon Tenney, though it’s unclear if that was a ‘fake scene’ or not.

Davis added: ‘We want the fans to enjoy the show. I think that’s the important part. You know, like, we don’t want them to know– we don’t want them to read the cliff notes beforehand.

When asked if it was ‘distracting’ to have such a big fan presence around the set, Nixon added more details about the production.

‘I have to say, we started shooting in July, and the city was just coming out of the lockdown. So it was so amazing for us to be back playing these characters.

‘But, also, I think it was exciting for people, and it was obviously obviously, very exciting for us to see people on the street watching us because it felt like New York coming back,’ Nixon said.

While Colbert addressed the departure of Kim Cattrall, Nixon said the group is now a ‘septet’ with new cast members Sarah Ramirez, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman and Sarita Chouhdury, who Nixon and Davis both agreed are all, ‘amazing.’

‘I really am so gratified. We knew the show was going to expand and there were going to be more people, and it was such an incredibly white show when it was on the first time.

‘So given an opportunity to go back and change that was, you know, very welcome,’ Nixon said, while Davis added that was a ‘huge part’ of why they came back.

Colbert then asked about their late co-star Willie Garson, with the actresses confirming he filmed three episodes of the new series before his passing.

‘I mean, Willie was just a person who just lightened any situation that he was in and just would have you in stitches within, you know, a minute of coming into a conversation,’ Nixon began.

‘Like, he was a person with incredible stories, like show business stories and stories about his own, you know, zany life and his family that he comes from and the family that he created. And he’s just a person who– I don’t know– just was always with the jokes,’ she added.

Davis added he was, ‘so full of joy and so incredibly brilliant and smart and really even– even being sick, which we didn’t know about in the beginning, he still brought so much joy.’

Nixon added, ‘I think it’s fair to say we shot with him for a long time not knowing he was sick, and then things got bad enough that we were informed. So I think we’re also very grateful that we had a few days with him, knowing that he was sick and we could talk to him about it and he could talk to us about it. And that I think was a really important thing for all of us.’

Davis’ voice started to crack, adding of her beloved co-star, ‘But it’s hard. I wish he were here, you know.’
