Anderson Cooper suffered an embarrassing moment as he hosted a town hall event for Bernie Sanders where he misgendered a civil rights attorney.

It came as the CNN host readied activist Grace Thomas to ask the Vermont Senator a question, saying in his introduction: ‘She’s a local civil rights attorney, she’s a democrat, Grace?’

‘It’s they/ them pronouns, actually,’ Thomas responded.

Anderson quickly responded ‘oh’, before Thomas got on with their question about why young men of varying demographics are fleeing the Democratic Party.

After a clip of the misgendering faux pas went viral, some viewers felt that Thomas’ question answers itself.

‘Who’s going to tell her?’ one X user said.

‘It is exactly because of people like her and their behavior that people are turned off and turned away from the Democratic Party.’

Another observer disagreed, saying: ‘Ironically this highlights exactly how easy this should be. Lol see how he didn’t melt into 1000 pieces.’

Democrats’ extreme stance on transgender issues was successfully used by Donald Trump to beat Kamala Harris in the November presidential election.

The liberal party’s support for trans women in female sports and hormone treatments for children who say they’re trans is unpopular with a majority of voters – even within their own party.

Some Dems have started to pivot back to the center in recent months, most notably California Governor Gavin Newsom, who agreed that it is unfair to left powerfully-built trans women compete against biological females in many sports.

He is widely-expected to run for the presidency in 2028.

The moment came as Sanders held the town hall event to discuss the state of the Democratic Party and its bumbling response to President Trump’s controversial moves in his second term.

Sanders touched on the turmoil in the global financial markets that Trump caused since introducing his tariff plan last Wednesday.

The senator particularly criticized Trump’s aggressive approach toward China, which has seen both nations slap heavy retaliatory tariffs against each other in recent days.

‘We don’t have to hate China,’ Sanders said.

‘We don’t have to hate other people. Let’s figure out a way to work together.

‘The goal has got to be to break down these barriers that separate us as human beings — come together as Americans and come together globally as human beings.’

A Republican voter asked Sanders how he would judge the strategy of using tariffs to control the global economy, to which he said he stood staunchly against international trade deals that ‘decimate communities all over this country.’

‘What these trade agreements, in essence, said to corporate America: ‘Hey, no problem. You can throw American workers out on the street. You can go to Mexico, you can go to China and hire people for pennies an hour,’ he said.

‘And I thought that that was a horrible idea. It was a horrible idea.’

Sanders’ condemnation of Trump’s trade war with China comes as the communist nation said it is preparing for ‘prolonged economic warfare’ with the United States.

China has spent years fostering a strategy that transitioned from building housing to $1.9trillion constructing factories to make cheap goods for export, seeing them rise 13 percent and 17 percent in 2023 and 2024.

Now, Chinese companies who had previously responded to Trump’s tariffs by offering discounts to longtime U.S. clients are willing to forego the American market entirely as they attempt to find new buyers.

Joe Biden’s trade representative Katherine Tai sounded the alarm of factories closing in America and worldwide to The New York Times: ‘The tsunami is coming for everyone.’

China has started taking action against American companies, adding half a dozen to a trading blacklist, including Shield AI and Sierra Nevada.

Another 12 American companies – including American Photonics and BRINC Drones – now face export controls, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Trump announced a 125 percent tariff on China Wednesday morning, after the country had slapped a ‘revenge tariff’ of 84 percent on the United States in response to the ‘Liberation Day’ duty.

The president also announced a 90-day pause on all new ‘reciprocal’ tariffs on Wednesday, in a major reversal which caused one of the biggest stock market rallies in history, singling out China for its ‘lack of respect… to the World’s Markets.’
