Andy Murray has accepted a wild card to compete in the second-tier Rennes Open Challenger in France next week. 

Murray will become the first grand slam champion to compete in the tournament, which started in 2006 when it was won by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

It will be the first time the 34-year-old has competed in the tournament, which starts on Monday. 

Murray, who pocketed £2million for his 2016 Wimbledon win, will pick up a mere €660 (£567) if he is knocked of the first round in Rennes.

The Scot will be eager to capitalise on his strong showing at the US Open, in which he pushed Stefanos Tsitsipas to five sets in their first-round clash.

The rivals became embroiled in an ofn-court feud after Murray criticised Tsitsipas’s lengthy toilet breaks. 

Murray kicked off a war of words when he accused the No 3 seed of taking too long on his emergency toilet breaks during their five-set clash. 

Tsitsipas was eventually knocked out in the third round by by rising star Carlos Alcaraz.

Battling back from a catalogue of injury problems, Murray is set to be joined by the likes of Richard Gasquet, Gilles Simon and Lucas Pouille at the event.
