Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has criticised the ‘really bad tackle’ from Moises Caicedo that led to Ryan Gravenberch going off on a stretcher.

Gravenberch suffered an injury following a challenge from Chelsea midfielder Caicedo in the Carabao Cup final.

Robertson followed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in criticising Caicedo as the Reds’ injury list continues to grow.

Although Liverpool won the Carabao Cup, Gravenberch’s injury was a key talking point after the game.

Robertson told Sky Sports: ‘Ryan’s (injury) is a really bad tackle. You can’t paint it any other way. It’s a really bad tackle on his ankle and you’ve just got to hope it’s not as bad as the pain he was feeling on the pitch.

‘So fingers crossed for that one and and hopefully, slowly but surely, we get the lads back because it is mounting up now and we have to keep going the way we’re going just now.

‘But hopefully we start introducing players back into the squad and we get stronger and stronger. Then hopefully we’ll be back to a fully fit squad soon enough that we can really push until the end of the season.’

After the game Klopp criticised referee Chris Kavanagh for not punishing Caicedo following the challenge.

He told Sky Sports: ‘There were two teams that were fighting extremely hard and the referee was not at the level of the game, that’s how it is. I’m sorry for that, I know they’ll make a story out of that but – it wasn’t even a foul? He didn’t even whistle for a foul.

‘And then, the fourth official explains to me ‘we cannot give a card because -‘ oh, good idea. These boys they are, I’m not sure if it is too much or too quick for them but that situation, it was obvious.

‘The doc [doctor] came up to me and saw the foot stamping on the ankle – that’s everything you need for a card.’

As well as Gravenberch, Liverpool are also currently without a host of other players, with Mohamed Salah, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota amongst those who are out.

Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Joel Matip and Stefan Bajcetic are also sidelined.
