Angel Reese plots Olympic future with Caitlin Clark after they put rivalry aside to win WNBA All-Star game following Team USA snubs

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark were WNBA All-Star teammates last weekend – and Reese is plotting a reunion with her rival at the next Olympics.

Both players were left off of this summer’s Team USA roster, but combined to good effect vs. the Olympians as the All-Star squad won 117-109.

And while Reese and Clark have famously had their share of clashes, the former enjoyed teaming up with the Indiana Fever star on Saturday and hopes they can do so for Team USA in 2028.

‘It’s so cool. I know when she gets the ball, I’m running to look for the ball because I know she’s gonna throw it,’ Reese told ABC of playing with Clark during an in-game interview.

‘So, she’s been great to play with. The future – we’re gonna be playing with each other a lot. Hopefully in four years we can be Olympians together.’

Clark and Reese have been rivals since Reese taunted Clark during the 2023 national championship

Clark was also highly complimentary of Reese during an interview on the WNBA’s orange carpet last week.

‘It’s gonna be really fun, she’s probably gonna lead the game in rebounds,’ Clark said on Thursday before the All-Star Game. ‘I expect that out of her. That’s just what she does.’ 

The Fever star’s prediction was correct as Reese led the game with 11 boards.

Her and Clark also combined in the second half as the former Iowa star found Reese for an open layup with a bounce pass.

Clark and Reese have been linked since their college days, with Reese (then of LSU) sparking national controversy when she taunted Clark towards the end of the 2023 national championship game.

Things have been frosty in the pros as well.

Earlier this season, Reese cheered when her teammate Chennedy Carter brutally body-checked Clark during a game.

There was also a hard flagrant foul in which Reese caught Clark in the head, and there’s been some testy off-court remarks made as well.

Reese has repeatedly reminded reporters that there are more than one notable rookies playing in the WNBA this season, and also claimed that Clark benefits from a ‘special whistle’ from officials.

The talented duo are also considered the top two contenders for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award.

Nonetheless, the pair may just have turned a corner in their relationship last weekend; time will tell.

The Olympics, meanwhile, start later this week with Team USA’s women’s basketball squad set to open group play vs. Japan on Monday.
