Angels of Melbourne: Brave women talk down a suicidal woman, 37, after she threatened to throw herself off a bridge into oncoming traffic – sparking hours of travel chaos

A woman who threatened to throw herself off a bridge into oncoming traffic was talked down by two quick-thinking Good Samaritans.

The incident happened between Clyde Road and the Princes Freeway in Berwick at around 8:30am on Tuesday.

The woman was taken to hospital for assessment.

Witnesses took to social media to praise the heroic Samaritans for intervening to save a life.

Early reports by onlookers suggested the person in question was a man, however a Victoria Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia it was a woman threatening to jump.  

‘Just a Massive shout out to the two women who stopped traffic on Clyde road bridge over the Monash, to run up and ultimately save the older man about to jump off,’ one man wrote.

He said one onlooker flagged down a passing paramedic, while another called to the distressed woman to talk her down from the edge.  

‘You no doubt saved at least one life today; potentially more if he had jumped into an oncoming car,’ he wrote.

Reports stated there were major traffic delays, but all was back to normal within a few hours.
