Angie Kent reveals her father’s battle with cancer and the shocking reason her family kept the illness from her

Reality TV star Angie Kent has opened up about her father Matt’s gruelling battle with blood cancer.

The Gogglebox Australia star, 34, told this week’s Stellar Magazine that her parents kept her dad’s diagnosis a secret until she returned home during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

‘Mum and Dad had known for a while but they only told me when I got home because they know how emotional I am. Seeing somebody that you’ve always seen as strong go through that was so hard,’ she said.

Angie confessed she became emotional at the reality of the disease, which took her grandfather when she was just 11.

‘[Dad] was like a skeleton and his hair started falling out in clumps, so he shaved it all off,’ she added.

Angie went on to say that her father, who is normally quite independent and liked to work, did not deal with the illness well.

‘He hated being in bed 24/7 and got really cranky. Then the pain got so bad he couldn’t really talk for a while and just shut down,’ she revealed.

But after he received a bone marrow transplant to treat his cancer, Angie said her dad has ‘bounced back’.

‘He’s like a cockroach – truly, the way he’s bounced back from the bone marrow transplant has blown everyone away… he has bounced back like a champion.’

Angie appeared on Gogglebox Australia from 2015 to 2018, where the reality show captured her reactions to TV programs alongside her friend Yvie Jones.

The pair would later appear on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2019, where Angie was the tenth celebrity to leave the jungle.

Later that same year, the blonde beauty appeared on the fifth season of dating show, The Bachelorette, where she ultimately ended up in a relationship with influencer Carlin Sterritt.

The pair broke up in June 2020, less than a year after they began their relationship.

Following the breakup, Angie revealed that she is pansexual.

Speaking to The Herald Sun, the TV star said she had previously only dated men because it was societally expected of her.

‘I have always been pansexual but I guess I have never really spoken about it,’ she told Confidential.

‘It is a society thing. I never really got to explore it and now I am like, “go girl, get amongst it”.’

Pansexuality refers to an attraction towards people regardless of their sex or gender identity.

‘I don’t care what you are, as long as we connect. Gender is not a massive thing for me and never really has been,’ Angie said.

‘I have always dated dudes because it was expected of me,’ she admitted.
