Annandale Sydney chainsaw attack: Two men arrested

This is the shocking moment a young man attacks an elderly homeowner with an electric chainsaw after confronting the victim inside his Sydney apartment.

Police allege three men broke into an Annandale unit through an open front door late on Monday afternoon – only to run into the homeowner, 63, and his wife.

The trio were confronted by the married couple before being chased downstairs and outside into an empty laneway by the husband.

One of the intruders allegedly grabbed an electric chainsaw from a nearby garage and assaulted the man, leaving him face down on the concrete with a deep cut to his face.

Dramatic footage captures the entire brawl, showing the homeowner throwing defensive punches as the man allegedly slashes at him with the tool.

The homeowner can be heard shouting: ‘You want a piece of me?’ while the alleged intruders appear to beckon him to attack.

One of the younger men can be heard saying ‘Stop it Justin’ as the fight intensifies and the disconnected chainsaw connects with the homeowner.

Police allege the three men ran off after the alleged assault.

Leichhardt police spotted two of the men inside a nearby hotel at 6pm and the pair were arrested. One of the men involved in the alleged attack is still on the run.

The pair were taken to Newtown Police Station, where a 20-year-old man was charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent, and common assault.

The alleged ringleader was charged with using an offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, aggravated enter dwelling with intent and common assault.

Both men were refused bail and are due to appear in Newtown Local Court on Tuesday. 

The 63-year-old man remains in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital receiving treatment for a laceration to his head and bruising.
