Ant and Dec return to the home of SMTV: Live to relive their first EVER link in 1998 as they reveal glimpse of reunion special with Cat Deeley

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have given fans a glimpse of their much-anticipated SMTV: Live reunion special.

The duo took to Instagram to post a clip from the ITV special which saw them return to the beloved Saturday morning show’s original home to relive their first ever link which aired back in 1998.

Ant and Dec are set to reunite with their co-host Cat Deeley for a look-back at the iconic children’s series, which will air at its original air time at 9:25am on Boxing Day.

In the clip Ant and Dec headed back to London Studios where SMTV was originally filmed throughout its run.

The duo revealed they were outside the TV building to record their first ever link for SMTV, telling viewers they’ve be ‘absolutely loopy bonkers to miss the show.’

As Ant asked Dec: ‘This is where we did the first ever link for the first ever episode of SMTV Live,’ his presenting partner said: ‘I think I remember the link.

‘It was something along the lines of ”wake up get up it’s Saturday morning…” with the preview then cutting to the duo recording the original link.

Standing in front of SMTV’s iconic logo, the pair introduced themselves to viewers as ‘the fifth Lord Anthony of McPartlin’ and ‘Viscount Donnelly of Declanshire.’

Ant told viewers: ‘From now on, Saturday mornings will never, repeat never, be the same again!’

Dec ended the link: ‘You’d be absolutely loopy bonkers to miss it!

Posting the clip on social media, Ant and Dec penned the caption: ‘We’ve popped a little SM:TV in your stocking that we think yule like… 

‘Back on the same slot as when it started twenty two years ago! Set your alarms, Boxing Day at 9:25am on @ITV, you’d be absolutely loopy bonkers to miss it.’

Ant and Dec are set to join co-host Cat in the famous SMTV studio for a look-back at the show and its iconic segments including Chums and Wonky Donkey. 

The show ran for more than 270 episodes from 1998 to 2003 with Ant and Dec at the helm for the first three years.

It was then hosted by Steps stars Ian ‘H’ Watkins, 44, and Claire Richards, 42, between 2002 to 2003. 

TV star Cat moved Stateside 14 years ago to focus on her career with husband Patrick Kielty, with whom she has two sons, Milo, four and James, two, but recently returned to the UK full-time. 

The Story of SMTV: Live airs on Boxing Day at 9:25am on ITV.
