Anthony Albanese announces major cabinet reshuffle

BREAKING: Anthony Albanese announces major cabinet reshuffle as he prepares Labor for an election this year as says he’s determined to win power from Scott Morrison

Anthony Albanese has announced a shadow cabinet reshuffle and said he is determined to win power at the next election.

Deputy Leader Richard Marles has taken a new position as shadow minister for National Reconstruction after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Brendon O’Connor will move into his former role as defence spokesman.

Mark Butler is being replaced as climate spokesman by health spokesman Chris Bowen, and will take Mr Bowen’s job in the health portfolio in a straight swap.

Clare O’Neill will serve as shadow Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care services.

‘This is the strongest team to form an Albanese Labor Government,’ Mr Albanese said.

In an interview with ABC show 7.30 on Wednesday night, Mr Albanese said he was prepared for an election this year.

The election is not due until May 2022, but Scott Morrison can call one sooner.

‘When you look at the position we are in, going into what may well be an election year at the end of the year, in terms of all the polling, we’re very competitive,’ Mr Albanese said.
