Anthony Gordon misses his SECOND consecutive day of training amid Newcastle talks with Everton

Anthony Gordon misses his SECOND consecutive day of training despite potential move to high-flying Newcastle with Everton not yet budging on £60m price tag

Everton attacker Anthony Gordon has reportedly missed his second consecutive day of training at Finch Farm.

Gordon, subject of Newcastle United interest, has missed three days –  a ‘planned absence’ earlier in the week – in addition to the unexplained absences on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Sky Sports, Gordon did not arrive at Everton’s training base on Merseyside as he looks to escape his boyhood club for the soaring Magpies.

Though various reports suggest a deal has hit a snag with the Toffees’ asking price of £60m too much for Eddie Howe’s club.

Earlier this week, Sportsmail confirmed that Newcastle were in formal talks with Everton over a deal for Gordon but they are also speaking to several European clubs over attacking options from the continent.

A £60m valuation is well above Newcastle’s estimate and they had initially proposed striker Chris Wood as a potential makeweight prior to him joining Nottingham Forest on loan.

When asked about whether there had been any developments regarding the acquisition of Gordon after Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Southampton in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, Eddie Howe gave nothing away.

‘I can tell you absolutely nothing,’ he said. ‘I’ve been preparing for this game for the last two days.’

Newcastle have been flying recently but Howe is looking to bolster his attack, with his side recently struggling to be clinical in front of goal.

Gordon, who has three Premier League goals to his name this season, has fallen a little out of favour at Goodison Park amid the team’s recent struggles.
