Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes ‘to star side-by-side in new dark comedy The Menu’

Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes are reportedly set to star in Searchlight’s new dark comedy, The Menu.

Succession director Mark Mylod will helm the feature, which is ‘a darkly comedic psychological thriller set in the world of eccentric culinary culture’.

The plot will ‘centre on a young couple [one half of which is 25-year-old Taylor-Joy] who visit an exclusive restaurant on a remote island where an acclaimed chef [Fiennes, 58] has prepared a lavish tasting menu’.

Deadline reports that Taylor-Joy is still currently in negotiations, while Fiennes has ‘recently closed a deal to also star’.

Producer Adam McKay is also attached to the project with Will Tracy and Seth Reiss having written the script.

It has not yet been revealed who will play Taylor-Joy’s onscreen partner.

MailOnline has reached out to both Taylor-Joy and Fiennes’ representatives.

Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2020, earning Golden Globes for Taylor-Joy’s performance and Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, among other awards.

The seven-episode series was adapted from Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel and crafted as a stand-alone limited series, though the show’s immense popularity has led to questions about the possibility of a second season.

In April, Taylor-Joy was asked about the possibility of another season and returning as chess prodigy Beth Harmon in a wide-ranging profile for Elle, and she didn’t rule it out, though it may be further down the line.

‘It would be silly of me to go, “There’s going to be a second series,” and then I’m 40, and Scott’s like, “Yo, how do you feel about this? You want to go back?”’

The stage rights to the Tevis novel were recently acquired for a new musical, but neither Taylor-Joy nor creator Scott Frank are involved in that project.

When asked what she would like to see her character Beth Harmon take on next, she hopes Beth would do some traveling, perhaps with Benny Watts (Thomas Brodie-Sangster).

‘I hope she starts doing things for her own enjoyment. I’d like Beth to pick up Benny and spend some time with him in Russia, just the two of them being snobby intellectuals together, and I hope she has a Bowie phase,’ Taylor-Joy said.

Taylor-Joy has a busy few years ahead of her, recently being cast as the title character in the Max Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa.

She also stars in Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho, hitting theaters this October, while reuniting with The Witch director Robert Eggers for his new film The Northman.

Fiennes, meanwhile, will return as M in the next James Bond film No Time To Die and will star in the Kingsman prequel, The King’s Man.
