Apollo finally explains THAT awkward breadsticks exchange

 He was a hot favourite to win The Bachelorette before his chances were brought undone by a single breadstick.

And on Thursday Apollo Jackson broke his silence on the now infamous incident, telling the Kyle and Jackie O Show he was ‘super tired’ when he reached for the hors d’oeuvres during his final single date with Sophie Monk.

‘I sort of did just want to sit there and chill with her and eat breadsticks,’ the 24-year-old told Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

During Thursday night’s episode, things turned awkward on Sophie and Apollo’s date when the magician said he wouldn’t be ready to settle down yet. 

‘We are having a conversation and all of a sudden it’s just cricket, cricket, cricket,’ Sophie explained in a later interview. 

‘Please say something.’

Lost for words, Apollo points to an antipasto platter and says: ‘Breadstick?’ 

‘I’m cool with that,’ Sophie responds curtly. 

You’re cool with the breadstick,’ Apollo replies, loading up the stick with cheese adding, ‘There we go done’ and tucking into the bread treat.

Speaking to Kyle and Jackie, Apollo explained it had been a combination of nerves and exhaustion that led to  the awkward exchange.  ‘

‘I was just exhausted, I was super tired I was sitting there and I was just tired and just nervous,’ he said.

 ‘And I guess felt a little bit awkward. I sort of did just want to sit there and chill with her and eat breadsticks.’ 

Apollo said their awkward single date meant he wasn’t shocked when he was sent home at the end of the episode.
