The full English breakfast is an iconic British dish, as as such is available in cafes around the world.
But one British holidaymaker was left horrified by the fry up he was served in Cyprus, which bore little resemblance to the ones he enjoys back home.
The Reddit users was so appalled he shared a picture of the restaurant’s efforts online; a chopping board loaded up with one frankfurter sausage, undercooked bacon, a single, watery egg, and – perhaps most surprisingly – a salad garnish.
It prompted a flurry of responses from equally underwhelmed Reddit users, including one who described the attempt at an English breakfast as ‘an abomination’.
A Reddit user shared a snap of a full English breakfast that he ate while on holiday in Cyprus
In addition to the very non-traditional frankfurter sausage, the breakfast, which was served at an unnamed restaurant in Cyprus, arrived with a side of unbuttered bread.
It included a portion of baked beans in a dish, and came on a chopping board in lieu of a plate.
User Spicerldn said: ‘This is what’s classed as a Full English Breakfast in Cyprus.’
The picture sent Reddit into meltdown, leaving many confused at how the breakfast could be considered a full English.
The picture was mocked by other Reddit users, who called it an ‘abomination’ and a ‘state’
One commented: ‘It’s like if someone learnt about it from a game of Chinese whispers.’
‘What in the hell is this abomination??’ another posted.
A third said: ‘Its like someone explained to them what one was, but they’d never seen or eaten one before –all the components are technically there. However, I contend that the addition of Lettuce renders this a salad.’
One person said he shouldn’t be ordering a fry up abroad and should instead sample the local food
‘The absolute f***ing state on that,’ a fourth ranted.
However, some Reddit users said the person who shared the picture shouldn’t be ordering a full English while abroad.
One posted: ‘Who the f*** goes to Cyprus and orders a full English? You should have got a proper Cypriot breakfast.’
‘I’d be ashamed that i’d ordered a FEB anywhere outside the UK,’ another said.
