An Apple boss has unwittingly sparked a social media storm after her choice of outfit very nearly overshadowed her keynote speech.
The tech giant’s Senior Vice President of Retail, Angela Ahrendts, 57, stepped on stage this week to talk about the company’s future as it unveiled its much-anticipated new iPhone X.
But the former Burberry exec’s eye-catching pink trench coat – thought to be a nod to her old employer – almost stole the show and has resulted in a massive surge in sales.
The item in question – a £1,995 macramé lace trench from the British fashion house – is now in huge demand with searches for ‘lace trench coat,’ ‘pink trench coat’ and ‘pink lace trench coat’ collectively up by a staggering 830 per cent.

Twitter user Andree Nastase added: ‘Really want to say something cogent about the Apple event but all I can think of is i <3 @AngelaAhrendts’ outfit. That dusty pink lace coat.’

During her seven-year tenure at the reins of Burberry, Ahrendts famously said: ‘Everyone in the world should have a trench coat, and there should be a trench coat for everyone in the world.’
In 2012, she was the highest-paid chief executive in the FTSE 100 with a pay package of almost £17m, which is thought to have doubled when she moved to Apple.
