  • Arabian Crown claimed a three-and-a-quarter length win at Sandown on Friday
  • The 5-4 favourite for the Derby next month is Aidan O’Brien-trained City of Troy

Arabian Crown is the 6-1 second favourite for the Betfred Derby after professional three-and-a-quarter length win in Sandown’s bet365 Classic Trial.

Jockey William Buick, who made all the running on the Charlie Appleby-trained son of Dubawi, said: ‘I think everyone will be happy with that, I was. He has a big stride and likes to use it.’

The 5-4 Derby favourite is Aidan O’Brien-trained City of Troy, who runs in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket next Saturday.

After Charyn cut down Poker Face to win Sandown’s bet365 Mile by a length and a quarter, trainer Roger Varian will aim him at the Group One Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on May 18.

Top level assignments are also on the cards for Harry Charlton-trained Okeechobee after he beat 2023 St Leger third Desert Hero a head in the Gordon Richards Stakes. The latter, carrying the colours of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, will have one more start before the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot.
