Are S Club 7 CURSED?

They were one of the biggest pop phenomena of the 90s, winning the hearts of millions of young fans and notching up several number one hits.

And now The Mail on Sunday has revealed that band S Club 7 are reforming 25 years after they first found fame on a BBC television show – with a combined age of 300.

But one member is yet to officially sign up for another series of shows with her bandmates and is hesitant because she doesn’t want to be ‘paid a pittance’.

Hannah Spearritt explained how at the moment the band would have to go ahead with the name S Club 6, which she admitted ‘hasn’t got the same ring to it’.

She said many fans believe she and her former bandmates are ‘millionaires’ but insisted that is not the case, with many going through ‘tough times’ – including gambling addictions, marriage splits and selling awards on eBay.

MailOnline now takes a look at all seven members of the band to see if they are cursed – 20 years after they split up.

Hannah Spearritt

Hannah abandoned her music career after S Club 7 split up and focused on her acting career instead.

She starred in the films Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London and Seed of Chucky.

Hannah, who was reportedly paid a salary of £150,000 a year during her time in S Club 7, was forced to move into an office after losing her house just before Christmas.

The band raked in £50million, but Hannah insists they weren’t paid a good wage in comparison with the millions the band was earning. She has now found herself with nowhere to live after her landlord sold their rented home in London at short notice.

Hannah – who has daughters Tea, four, and Tora, two, with fitness instructor Adam Thomas – had to seek refuge in a friend’s office after not wanting to pay ‘crazy’ rental prices upfront. They have been in four temporary homes within the last six months and are still without one of their own.

She told The Sun : ‘The kids’ beds were there and we had the crayons out. It was stressful. Our landlord needed the money and the property sold so fast. We ended up with under two days to leave.

‘What screwed us is we didn’t have time to find another place. We had somewhere over Christmas but ran out of time before we could move in. It was just a couple of weeks. We filled the unopened café with our belongings — we were so lucky to have that storage space — but had nowhere to go.

‘We were allowed to stay in our friend’s office. We just used it as our living room. We could work in there and the kids played. It was extra space. The kids’ beds were there and we had the crayons out. The climbing frame was up; it was fun for them. It was stressful but you deal with it, don’t you? Especially with the kids. Whatever doesn’t break you, as they say.’

Hannah previously underwent breast implant surgery that left her suffering from chronic fatigue, memory loss and hair loss, as well as depression and anxiety.

After finally getting the implants removed in 2016, she recovered and released a documentary about the experience called: ‘Hannah Spearritt: Me & Breast Implants’.

Paul Cattermole

In 2002, Paul sent shockwaves through S Club 7’s global fanbase when he spectacularly announced he was quitting the group citing ‘creative differences’.

He had a rocky road after leaving the band, becoming bankrupt in 2015 and even putting his Brit Award up for sale on eBay for £650 and saying: ‘There’s bills to pay’.

Paul, who was previously in a relationship with Hannah, won the Best Newcomer award back in 2002 with the rest of the pop group.

He also put on a frame he received for S Club 7’s album going platinum in New Zealand, which had a starting bid of £200.

Paul admitted to trying to sign up to reality shows like I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and Dancing On Ice but was told he wasn’t ‘famous enough’.

He then appeared on Loose Women in 2018 where he admitted he had run out of money and had to borrow a shirt for the show.

In 2019 Paul made an emotional appearance on the dating show First Dates Hotel.

The star went on a date with music lover Anna but after being let down gently, sobbed on camera and asked for a ‘moment’ to pull himself together.

Last year his ex bandmate Tina Barrett said: ‘I’m always here for Paul. It is hard when you see someone you’ve worked with look like they’re struggling.’

Paul has since launched a career as a YouTube tarot card reader, asking fans to give him a donation.

Paul encourages subscribers to get in touch for personal tarot readings and offers a link for viewers to donate money to support him.

Jo O’Meara

Jo has also struggled since the band split and has suffered with several health issues, caused by a back injury from 2002 that flared up again.

Last year, Jo was forced to undergo four surgeries to remove part of a slipped disc in her back.

She gave a health update revealing she now needs regular physiotherapy and has permanent damage to her right leg.

Jo previously spoke out about her gambling addiction and explained her compulsion to play fruit machines at the height of her fame with the pop group.

The singer said on Lorraine: ‘It became a bit of a thing. With the band, it was so busy and so hectic, I just used it as a bit of escapism to run away with myself for a little while’.

But it has’t all been bad for Jo as she went on to welcome a son called Lenny in May 2008 with her ex Bill Slater.

Jo released her debut track What Hurts The Most in September 2005 and it reached number 13 on the UK Singles Chart.

However, her follow up album Relentless was a commercial failure and she decided to turn to reality TV.

She appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007, where she was accused of racism towards Shilpa Shetty, alongside Jade Goody and Danielle Lloyd.

She also put out tracks More More and Some Girls to great success before her solo career came to an end after her second album in 2005.

Rachel then appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2008 where she made it all the way to end, and came in second place.

Tina Barrett

Tina was nearly in another popular band, as she was in original version of Mis-Teeq with Alesha Dixon and Sabrina Washington, but left to join S Club 7.

After the band split she went MIA for a little while before returning to the spotlight with her debut single Fire in 2012.

She followed that up with Make Me Dance and All Fired Up, before joining S Club 3 with Jo and Bradley.

Tina also dipped her toe in musical theatres, appearing in Beauty and the Beast and playing the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz in 2014.

She welcomed her son Roman in 2016 with her ex Paul Cashmore, who she dated for six years until 2019.

Tina told OK! magazine: ‘Walking away from our relationship was so hard, it felt like my whole world caved in.’

She added: ‘When you have a baby, you have the future mapped out – and then when that doesn’t happen, it’s like your whole world caves in.

‘I had to decide whether to carry on when it’s not working or end it. Looking back, we did the right thing. The worst thing is clinging on to something when you know it’s not right. It’s heartbreaking.’

Tina continued with her music career and released another single Mwah Mwah in January 2020 as well as appearing on the Hit List with Bradley in December 2022.
