A retired priest has what are thought to be Britain’s oldest Christmas decorations bought at the end of WWI.
Reverend Geoffrey Squire, from Barnstaple, Devon, has a set of 71-year-old Christmas lights and a set of festive glass ornaments that were bought in 1918.
The 81-year-old uses all the decorations every year and will use most of them again this year before donating the baubles to the local museum.
He said: ‘My grandparents on my mother’s side bought some fragile glass decorations to celebrate the end of World War One in 1918.

‘My family were all very careful with them.
‘There are two left of the spare lights from 1946 now so when they are fitted in and one of the bulbs goes that will be the end of them.
‘There can’t be many of those lights around anymore.
‘Myself and my sister always have people in over Christmas so it is nice to put the decorations up and make it Christmassy.

‘We always had a Christmas tree ever since we were little children.
‘Everyone likes to see them.’
