Beloved ARIA Award-winning musician Richard Andrew died on Wednesday aged 58, after a short battle with stage four metastatic lung cancer.
The beloved drummer and guitarist performed in the cult Melbourne indie rock band Underground Lovers from 1990 until his tragic passing.
The band confirmed the sad news of Richard’s passing in a heartbreaking social media post.
‘It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our charming beautiful force of nature Richard John Andrew,’ they began.
‘We are numb with grief and sadness. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home this morning with his wife at his side.
‘We ask for privacy during this difficult time,’ they said in conclusion.
Richard and his bandmates won an ARIA Award in 1992 for Best New Talent.
They were also nominated in 1996 for Best Independent Release for their album Rushall Station.

He recorded 10 albums with his bandmates and was renowned for the high energy performances he brought to the stage.
The band were beloved in the Australian alternative music scene, with several of the albums Richard played on reaching the ARIA charts.
Tragically, Richard had taken to social media just one week before his death to confirm he had been diagnosed with cancer and told his fans he was at peace with his fate.
‘I was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic lung cancer, which has been a billy cart ride down s**t street,’ Richard began.
‘I’ve often been thinking lately that the way you die reflects the way you’ve lived and I have just had the most amazing life. I will desperately miss you all.’
He is survived by his wife Nicolete.
