Confronting images have emerged of heavily armed police ramming into a luxury car and forcefully arresting a group of thieves on an exclusive Sydney street.

Four men in a black Audi were rammed by an undercover police Land Rover on Cabramatta Road, Cremorne in North Sydney on Monday morning.

Video obtained by Seven News shows the elite police squad jumping onto the bonnet of the specialty four-wheel-drive holding rifles to the robbers before engaging in a physical arrest.

A New South Wales Police spokesman said four men were arrested as part of a planned operation.

The maroon four-wheel-drive can be seen smashed into the Audi sedan, with a large bumper bar on the front of the vehicle denting the luxury car.

A heavily armed police officer jumps onto the top of the car, gun raised, as several others surround the robbers on the nature strip.

The Tactical Operations Unit officers then converge on the men, with one officer seen kicking one of the arrested.

After subduing one man, police then turn to another man also on the nature strip in front of luxury homes in one of Sydney’s most affluent suburbs.

Another man attempted to make a run for it, but was eventually arrested in a nearby laneway.
