Armed police surround building in Cardiff and cordon off the area following reports of a siege

Armed police have been pictured surrounding a building in Cardiff Bay in an ‘ongoing incident’ that may have been started yesterday.

Pictures show three police cars and several officers around the Scott Harbour building on Pierhead Street. 

South Wales Police confirmed there is an ‘ongoing incident’ at the building.

A witness said they could see armed officers on the inside and outside of the building and added that it ‘looked like a siege’.

Another witness said police officers were in negotiations with a person in the reception area of the building, where a bald man appears to be on his knees with his arms raised.

Ambulances are also at the scene and police outside appear relaxed. Video from the scene shows police outside the building while blinds are ushered down from the inside.

A spokesman for South Wales Police told Wales Online: ‘Police have cordoned off the area while they deal with an ongoing situation.

‘Armed officers have been deployed as a precautionary measure. The public are thanked for their cooperation at this time. ‘

WalesOnline are also reporting that ‘Unconfirmed reports suggest that the incident has been going on since yesterday.’

It is understood that the operation involves a distressed person.

A passer-by also told WalesOnline: ‘It looks like a waiting game.’
