Armenia 1-4 Germany: Havertz, Gundogan and Hofman on target to continue rampaging form

Armenia 1-4 Germany: Kai Havertz, Ilkay Gundogan and Jonas Hofman on target as Hansi Flick’s side continue rampant goalscoring form as Hernikh Mkhitaryan nets consolation spot-kick

  • Germany finished off their World Cup qualifying campaign against Armenia
  • Hansi Flick’s in-form side smashed Liechtenstein 9-0 in their last game
  • Kai Havertz opened the scoring from close range before Ilkay Gundogun’s brace
  • Henrikh Mkhitaryan pulled one back from the spot, but Jonas Hofman replied

Ruthlessness, the most evident trait imposed at Hansi Flick’s Germany, prevailed again in Yerevan as Die Mannschaft crushed Armenia 4-1.

When Jonas Hofman capped a commanding performance with the fourth, Germany jotted their 29th goal in six game – and their 17th in three.

They’d long qualified for Qatar 2022 – even before their 9-0 demolition of Liechtenstein – when Kai Havertz tapped-in the opener from Hofman’s low cross from the left to open the scoring. Ilkay Gundogan followed up with a double, the first a bobbling shot from outside the box, the second a penalty.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored only the second goal conceded by Germany in their last seven games from the spot, before Hofman capped a dominant group stage campaign – and made it seven wins from seven for Flick.
