Armie Hammer ‘can’t afford gas anymore’ and is forced to sell truck after cannibalism scandal killed Hollywood career

Armie Hammer is selling his truck because he ‘can’t afford gas anymore.’

On Tuesday, the day before his 38th birthday, he took to Instagram with a video of himself explaining what he has been up to since his acting career was upended due to his scandals.

This update comes one month after he said he was ‘grateful’ for the allegations of cannibalism, sexual misconduct and an accusation of rape that imploded his career in 2021.

The actor, who has not been working in Hollywood since the allegations were raised against him, told his fans that he got a new, ‘tiny’ hybrid car since he can’t afford the truck anymore in a video he filmed in a CarMax parking lot.

He began his video by explaining that he has been back in Los Angeles for ‘a couple of weeks now,’ and plans to sell his truck so he can start his 38th year with ‘a new car, in a new apartment, in a new life.’

‘This is my truck,’ he said, introducing the vehicle he has owned for seven years. ‘I bought this for myself in 2017 as a Christmas gift for myself.’

He continued: ‘I have loved this truck intensely and taken it camping and across the country multiple times and on long roadtrips and I’ve taken it on one last roadtrip… to CarMax.’

He clarified that his video was ‘not an ad’ and he was only filming an update ‘because I’m selling my truck.’

‘Since being back in L.A., I have put about $400 or $500 worth of gas in it and I can’t afford it,’ he admitted.

‘I can’t afford the gas anymore,’ he emphasized.

‘I mean, this truck, it took the kids home from the hospital and all that stuff,’ Hammer added. ‘Amazing trips, but you know what, that’s okay.’

He explained that he already purchased a new, ‘tiny’ car.

‘I’ve got a new car. It’s tiny. It’s a hybrid,’ he said. ‘I’m probably going to put about 10 bucks of gas in it a month and this is it. Here’s to new beginnings.’

He also noted that it was the day before his birthday, and he wanted a fresh start.

‘It’s my birthday tomorrow. So, August 28, I will be starting my birthday in a new car, in a new apartment, in a new life in Los Angeles.’

Then, he addressed his car and told the inanimate object: ‘Thank you very much.’

‘You have gotten me a long way and I appreciate it all. I hope you take as good of care of the next person.’

He concluded: ‘I just keep telling myself that parking is going to be easier and gas is going to be cheaper.’

His update comes after he appeared on the Painful Lessons podcast in June and spoke about being accused of rape in a case that ended up in no charges in 2021.

He said he was ‘grateful’ for the experience of being cancelled.

The star, who previously denied any criminal wrongdoing in the past, said: ‘Whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I’m now at a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it.’

Hammer continued, ‘I’m actually now at a place where I’m really grateful for it, because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me, I didn’t feel good. I never felt satisfied. I never had enough.

‘I never was in a place where I was happy with myself.’

He said he learned invaluable lessons and gained a new perspective following the scandal.

‘I’m able to look at it with a sense of distance and perspective and be like, “That’s hilarious.” People called me a cannibal, and everyone believed them. They’re like, “Yep, that guy ate people.” They’re just like… What? Like, what are you talking about?’
