Arne Slot insisted that his Liverpool side aren’t getting complacent after they fell to only their second defeat of the Premier League season.

‘Complacency is the last thing,’ said Slot, whose side still have a 11-point lead at the summit and need just 11 more points from their remaining seven games to secure the title.

‘There’s no reason for us to be complacent because we’re not winning every game by three or four goals,’ added the Liverpool boss.

‘It takes us so much effort and hard work combined with quality to win games of football but the team (Manchester City) that won the league the last four seasons were already 3-0 up at half-time in a lot of the games they played.

‘That’s not the way it is for us. We’re fully aware that we have to compete for seven more games. Wednesday (against Everton) was a close call. This was a close call. Many times we’ve been on the right side but we were on the wrong side and that’s mainly because of the errors we made.

And Slot stressed that the loss was due to a 15-minute spell in the first half where Liverpool conceded three times.

‘It wasn’t 45 minutes of disasters but the errors we made (in those 15 minutes) is something we’re not used to and that’s something different,’ he said. ‘One of the reasons why we are in the position that we are in is because we don’t make a lot of mistakes,’ added Slot.

Meanwhile Fulham boss Marco Silva hailed his side’s performance as he became the only manager after Nuno Espirito Santo to beat Slot in the Premier League this season.

‘It’s a great three points and I really believe we deserved it,’ said Silva, whose side also drew at Anfield earlier this season.

‘We’ve had three big games in the last nine days. We didn’t get what we wanted in the first two but to bounce back and win against the next Premier League champions is important for us and nice to give something back to the fans.

‘It’s been a great season for this football club but in some important moments we haven’t been at our best like last week (in the FA Cup quarter-final).

‘But we have been changing the mindset of this club. That is clear for me. If you go back 10 or 15 years, these types of games were really tough and it wasn’t easy to be competitive. Just look back and see the story of our games against Liverpool and it’s an example,’ he added.
