An Arsenal star is set to undergo ankle surgery following a decision made by the club’s medical staff.

The player has been managing fitness issues in recent weeks and hasn’t featured in the last three league matches.

As a result it has now been decided that the player will undergo a procedure, with his return date currently unknown.

The news isn’t a major blow with regards to this season, with Arsenal having just one game remaining this season in which they will face Southampton away.

Mikel Arteta’s team secured their place in next season’s Champions League with a 1-0 win at home to Newcastle on Sunday.

However, Arsenal will hope that the player won’t be out for a lengthy period.

As reported by The Telegraph, Jurrien Timber will undergo an ankle procedure.

The defender wasn’t included in the squad against Newcastle and was an unused substitute for the previous game against Liverpool. Timber’s last appearance came in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against PSG in which he played 83 minutes.

Timber has featured prominently for Arsenal this season, making 48 appearances across all competitions.

With Ben White now building up momentum after his own injury struggles, Timber can now undergo surgery.

After joining Arsenal from Ajax in 2023 Timber missed the majority of his first campaign with the Gunners after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury on his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest.

Arsenal have struggled with many injuries this season, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, White, Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kai Havertz all spending long spells on the sidelines.

The Gunners will be eager to have Timber available for pre-season, when Arteta’s team will begin their preparations to go one step further and win the Premier League title.

Jesus, Tomiyasu and Gabriel Magalhaes remain sidelined, while William Saliba suffered a hamstring injury against Newcastle.

Timber could be doubtful for the Netherlands’ World Cup qualifiers away to Finland and at home to Malta next month.
