Arsenal vs Chelsea – SIX THINGS YOU MISSED

Arsenal came from behind against Chelsea courtesy of an own goal and one from Granit Xhaka to progress through to the Carabao Cup final.

Arsene Wenger’s side, who will face Manchester City in the final of the competition on February 25, fell behind to an early Eden Hazard strike but showed great resilience to earn the win.

As always, Sportsmail was on hand to pick out some of the things you may have missed during the Carabao Cup semi-final clash at the Emirates.

Why did both teams arrive at the same time?

When two teams from the same city meet, especially in a cup semi-final, you’d expect the rivalry to more raucous than usual.

In this case, not so much. Both teams arrived at the same time, wearing the same clothes in what looked like some sort of weird throwback to garage/hip hop band So Solid Crew.

A little explainer

They’re a helpful bunch at the Emirates. With the advent of VAR currently sending football into a spin, Arsenal took it upon themselves to explain the process on their big screen.

It’s fairly self-explanatory, but nice nonetheless.

A gift for the birthday boy?

Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard gave his playing shirt to a young fan on Saturday after his double helped his side to a 4-0 win over Brighton.

And now, the idea appears to have caught on. One young Chelsea supporter in the crowd set his stall out early and, before the game, displayed his request to have the Belgian’s shirt.

To be fair, it was the boy’s seventh birthday. But did he get his gift?

‘He’s left ‘cos you’re s**t’

It didn’t take long for the visiting fans to get stuck into Arsenal for letting their star player leave.

The travelling Chelsea contingent burst into song to goad their opposing fans early in the piece.

‘He left ‘cos you’re s**t’, they sang. Hardly the most complex, but effective nonetheless.

The long-awaited Ross Barkley return

Ross Barkley got his chance to return to the pitch on Wednesday night when Willian hobbled off with injury.

It was the England international’s first appearance of the season and, incredibly, the last time he turned out was at that very stadium, last May with Everton.

The referee that night as well? Michael Oliver.

Jack Wilshere takes out his England competition

Jack Wilshere hopes to break into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the World Cup in Russia this summer.

One man who could potentially stand in his way — given a run of games and a return to form — could be the Chelsea debutant.

But not if Wilshere has anything to do with it.

His opposite number had not been on the field more than a minute before he slid into him with a bone-crunching challenge.
