  • Brighton have rejected a £40m offer from Arsenal for star defender Ben White
  • Interest in the 23-year-old spiked after he was called-up to the England squad
  • As a result, Brighton have placed a £50m price tag on their academy prospect
  • Arsenal will also have to fight off Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham

Brighton have reportedly rejected a £40million offer from Arsenal for their star defender Ben White.

The Gunners are among several clubs who have registered an interest in the 23-year-old following his call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad this summer.

As Sportsmail previously revealed, Brighton have placed a £50million price tag on their academy prospect and will be continue to reject any lower offers presented.

White will also be looking for a wage increase next term after gaining a year of experience in the Premier League and earning a place in England’s Euro 2020 squad this summer.

As a result, Arsenal will need to assess whether they can make a deal for White fit in with their current budget – according to The Sun.

The Gunners will feel the financial strain of failing to qualify for Europe next season during the summer transfer window.

However, Mikel Arteta is still eager to use their reduced budget to reinforce a number of positions this summer.

Finding a replacement for David Luiz is said to be a priority for the Gunner manager and it is believed he feels White would be the perfect solution.

White could also be regarded as a replacement right-back given Hector Bellerin has been linked with a departure from the Emirates.

Having made 36 appearances as the Seagulls comfortably beat the drop by 13 points, Arteta has been impressed by White’s performances.

However, Arsenal will have to fight off interest from Premier League giants Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham.
