‘That is unique’: Lovely moment Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho put aside their old rivalry and enjoy You’ll Never Walk Alone during Liverpool’s Champions League final victory
- Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho were TV pundits for Champions League final
- Former managerial rivals put aside bad blood as they observed the action
- Both left in awe as they watched Liverpool fans sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’
In the past not even the technical area on a touchline was enough to keep Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger from getting at each other’s throats.
So the idea of putting the managerial rivals in the same studio sat next to each other looked only set to produce fireworks as they covered Liverpool’s Champions League final victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
But it did not take long for the former Premier League giants to start agreeing on football related matters.

Before the game had even started the two looked and listened in awe as they observed the Liverpool supporters singing the club anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
Mourinho lifted this thumbs up at the ceremony calling it ‘beautiful’, while Wenger chipped in moments later with agreement calling it ‘unique.’
The former Arsenal manager later admitted that Liverpool was a special place for football, after seeing goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi win the Reds their sixth European Cup.
‘Liverpool is the city of music, of the working class and of football,’ he said.
‘Anyone who has managed in England knows it is a special place for football. That’s why they can always make miracles.’
The former managerial rivals managed to put previous bad blood aside as TV pundits
Wenger and Mourinho’s agreeable nature in their role as pundits is a far cry from their Premier League days where the two often exchanged in near physical as well as verbal jousts.
Back in 2014, as Chelsea manager Mourinho squared up to Wenger on the touchline during a London derby against Arsenal and it followed a war of words between the pair.
The former Manchester United manager had previously called Wenger, who left Arsenal last summer, as specialist in failure following a perceived under performance at the Emirates Stadium.
The bitterness between the rivals stretches back to as far as 2005, when Mourinho’s Chelsea wrestled the Premier League title from Arsenal, when the Portuguese had also called his rival ‘a voyeur’ following criticisms from the Frenchman at his Chelsea team.
