  • Rain in Adelaide saw day two abandoned early with England 29 for one at stumps
  • The tourists lost Mark Stoneman early in response to Australia’s 442 for eight
  • Shaun Marsh hit an unbeaten century for Steve Smith’s side on day two
  • Debutant Craig Overton took three wickets but the tourists toiled in the field

England head into day three of the second Test facing a monumental task to save the match and the series.

Joe Root’s side finished a rain-affected second day on 29 for one in response to Australia’s 442 for eight declared in Adelaide. Shaun Marsh hit a brilliant century for the home side as England toiled in the field on another difficult day Down Under.

Craig Overton took three wickets for the tourists, including the scalp of captain Steve Smith, but it was a tough day for all of England’s bowlers as bit scores from Marsh, Tim Paine and Pat Cummins put Australia in the driving seat.

When the time came for England to bat, Mitchell Starc trapped Marc Stoneman in front for 18 before rain put pay to Australia’s hopes of worsening the damage on day two.
