Ashes 2018 LIVE: Australia v England 5th Test day 3 at SCG

  • Australia reached stumps at the end of day two on 193 for two at the SCG
  • Usman Khawaja (91) is closing in on a ton and Steve Smith reached 41 not out
  • England were bowled out for 346 after some big hitting from the lower order
  • LAST WICKET: Warner c Bairstow b Anderson 56, Australia 86 for two

England’s quest to end this Ashes series on something of a high will depend on whether they can stop the seemingly impenetrable Steve Smith.

Smith ground out to 41 before stumps on day two as he and Usman Khawaja watchfully worked their way closer to England’s first innings total of 346.

Stuart Broad made a dent in the Australian top order when he removed the horrifically out-of-form Cameron Bancroft for a duck.

David Warner posted a half century before he was caught behind by Jonny Bairstow soon after off the bowling of James Anderson.

As well as the action in the middle, the Test will be of added significance as it marks the 10-year anniversary of the now iconic Sydney ‘Pink Test’ – and the third day will be the iconic Jane McGrath day.

Australian seam-bowling legend and Sportsmail columnist Glenn McGrath set up the McGrath Foundation back in 2005 following his wife Jane’s initial diagnosis and recovery from breast cancer. She went into remission, but the cancer returned and she died in 2008, aged 42.

Joe Root and Co will ditch their traditional blue caps and don bright pink ones in support the wonderful cause.
