Ashes 2018 LIVE: Australia v England 5th Test day 4 at SCG

  • Australia made England toil on third day, extending first innings lead to 133
  • Mason Crane claimed his first wicket to dismiss Usman Khawaja for 171
  • Shaun (98) and Mitchell (63) Marsh will be back out to bat at the SCG
  • Tourists will be looking for crucial early wickets to get them back in game

England are facing another uphill struggle to avoid defeat in the final Ashes Test.

Australia moved to a 133-run lead on the third day in Sydney and have all the momentum with brother Shaun (98) and Mitchell (63) Marsh continuing at the crease.

Usman Khawaja hit his maiden Ashes ton with a defiant 171, while Steve Smith fell short of his usual high standards and was caught and bowled by Moeen Ali for 83.

The hosts will begin day four on 474 for four and looking to bat for at least another two sessions and grind England’s beleaguered bowling attack into the dirt.

The tourists will be desperate to haul themselves back into the contest with some early wickets but it would take a remarkable turnaround to break the Australian grip on the game.

Follow all the action on the penultimate day of the series as it happens with Sportsmail’s JAMES DUTTON and updates from PAUL NEWMAN at the SCG.
