Ashley Graham shared a shocking email she received this week imploring her to leave her husband because he is black, as she opened up to her followers about the sickening reality of racism.
The email was shared on Graham’s Instagram Stories, where the model, 31, told her fans that ‘racism isn’t clickbait, it’s real and evil’ before including a grab of the sickening message.
‘You are no role model to anyone,’ the email from a man named Sterling started, and it was subjected as, ‘I detest everything you represent’.
Heartbreaking: Ashley Graham, 31, shared on her Instagram Stories a horrifying email she received this week that insulted herself and her husband, Justin Ervin
Opening up: Before sharing the email, Graham first informed her followers about what they were about to see
Horrible: The email sent from a man named Sterling bashed Graham for marrying a black man. It also used a number of racial slurs and insulted her intelligence
The man continued: ‘Race mixing is evil and against nature.’
He was referencing how Graham is married to videographer Justin Ervin, whom she first met in 2009 before marring him in 2010.
But the relationship apparently insulted Sterling because Graham’s husband is black, so he decided to voice his bigoted opinions in a horrific email filled with racial slurs.
‘You are not plus size — you are FAT and definitely not as attractive as you think you are,’ he wrote. ‘Big t**s do not make a woman — a big heart does and yours is as small as your pea brain.’
The attack then continued with the man moving on to attack the couple, who have been married for more than eight years, saying he hopes they will divorce before having any children together.
He continued: ‘There is a silver lining — interracial marriage has a very high divorce rate. So here’s some advice — dump some weight, including that brain dead n***a hubby of yours. Get a brain yourself and marry a good White man and have a dozen beautiful White children instead of any ugly [kids]…with your…husband.’
Graham confessed this is only one of many emails she receives insulting her relationship with her husband.
She starred on the cover of Allure for its July issue and detailed how being with her husband has increased her awareness of racism.
Under attack: Graham married her husband in 2010 after one year of dating. The man who sent the racist email was unhappy that she was in an interracial marriage
Terrible: This comes after the model said a man spit at Ervin, pictured together at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, in Italy because he’s black
Educated: Graham made these admissions when appearing on the cover of Allure for the July issue. She admitted marrying her husband has made her more aware of racism
‘I see what my husband has to go through every day,’ Graham shared with the publication. ‘We had gone to Italy, and a man spat on him.’
‘It’s heartbreaking,’ she continued. ‘It can make you really angry. But it’s like, how are you going to change that anger into a teachable moment?’
Telling the story to Allure was Graham’s way to make people more aware about the racism going on around the world every day, and how others can make an impact on the issue.
‘Read books; have conversations. Educate yourself. The more you have conversations with people around you that are different than you, [the more] you’re going to learn and you’re going to grow,’ she said.
‘No one who isn’t black is going to understand a black person’s life, but they don’t have to be ignorant toward [what it’s like]. I want to know as much as I can as a white woman who is going to be raising black children.
‘We’re going to have to have that conversation of “Mommy’s white, Daddy’s black,” and I want to be prepared.’
The couple is not yet planning on having children, but Graham admitted they eventually want some.
Speaking out: ‘It’s heartbreaking,’ she said. ‘It can make you really angry. But it’s like, how are you going to change that anger into a teachable moment?’
Proud: Graham hosted the Today show with Jenna Bush Hager on Thursday and spoke about how her photo shoot with Allure not retouched
Ironically, the email from Sterling perfectly encapsulated a point Grahma made during her interview with Allure in regards to her intelligence.
‘Women are actually paid more than the male models,’ she explained. ‘I don’t know if there’s any other industry where women get paid more…Now, as a model, you have a voice; you have a brain; they want to hear what your platform is and what you stand for.’

The man might think Graham has a ‘pea brain’, but she has grown her platform immensely in the last couple of years by launching her own podcast and becoming a body positivity ambassador — making her personal brand a lucrative business.
‘My body has always been treated as a thing and not mine,’ she explained. ‘You’re the sexy girl. You’re the naked girl. Men are going to idolize your hourglass figure.
‘It was always about what others thought about my body, until I gained a voice. Now I get to tell people what I think of my body.’
She further promoted her message in the cover shoot with Allure because none of the pictures were retouched in any way.
The point, Graham explained when hosting the Today show with Jenna Bush Hager on Thursday morning, was to encourage younger women that their bodies are also acceptable without the need of Photoshop.
Graham said during the show, ‘I feel like if we got to see [unretouched photos] more growing up…don’t you think you would’ve been more comfortable in your own skin?’
