Ashley Roberts has revealed that her gruelling work schedule while performing with The Pussycat Dolls had such an impact on her health, she was rushed to hospital.

The singer, 40, who performed with the band from 2003 to 2010 before reuniting in 2019, admitted doctors feared she was suffering from a brain aneurysm after her body ‘just shut down.’

Luckily, following an MRI scan doctors told Ashley she simply needed to rest, with the star adding she’s learned to adapt to a slower lifestyle since moving to the UK.

Speaking on Jamie Laing’s Private Parts podcast, Ashley admitted that her fast-paced schedule while performing with the Pussycat Dolls took a terrifying toll on her health.

She said: ‘The thing was, being in a girl band, we make people a lot of money so there was, the schedule was outrageous. I’m not going to lie, by the end I was breaking down. I was in the hospital.

‘They thought I was having a brain aneurysm. I think it was just from going, going, going and my body was just shutting down really.

WHAT IS A BRAIN ANEURYSM?

A brain aneurysm is a bulge or ballooning blood vessel.

This can leak, causing bleeding in the brain, which can be life threatening.

Symptoms of a ruptured aneurysm include:

  • Sudden, severe headache
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Stiff neck
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Seizure
  • Drooping eyelid
  • Confusion
  • Loss of consciousness

An unruptured aneurysm may not have any symptoms and could not require treatment.

The causes of brain aneurysms are often unclear.

Risk factors include high blood pressure, smoking, heavy drinking and old age.

Treatment may include surgery or medication to restore blood flow and relieve pain.

‘I remember being in the hospital, I was actually here in London, and I was like, ‘I’ve got to go to Germany, I’ve got to get on a plane now’. I was like, ‘I’ve got a show to do’.

‘As I was walking to get the MRI because they thought I was having a brain aneurysm, my knee locked up and I got this viral arthritis so I couldn’t bend my knee. The doctor was like, ”I think you need to just rest”. It’s wild.’

Ashley starred in The Pussycat Dolls alongside Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Kimberly Wyatt, Jessica Sutta and Melody Thornton from 2003 to 2010.

The band reunited in 2019 and were planning to tour the world, but these plans were cancelled following a row between Nicole and founder Robin Antin.

Ashley confessed that she struggled to adapt to life after leaving the band, adding: ‘We were on the road for eight years pretty much solid, and then spat out the other end and I was like, ‘Who am I without this identity in the group?’

‘I actually went and sat with this guru, I was on a journey. I was doing mantras, I was doing yoga and taking different acting classes and trying to figure out who I was and to get that passion back for the arts and creativity, because I just felt burnt out.’

In recent years Ashley has relocated to the UK, working on the Heart Radio Breakfast Show in London, and also told Jamie she’s considering selling her home in the US because she’s in no rush to return to the States.

She added: ‘Great things are happening over here. I’ve still got my home in LA although I think I might sell it.

‘Not because I’m not going to go back to LA, I don’t know, I just feel better over here. I like it.

‘I miss my mom and I miss the lifestyle in LA because it’s nice to go out and go hiking in the sunshine and all that, but I don’t know. The UK’s been good to me.

‘When I first started working over here outside of the Dolls, I was like, ‘I’m just temporarily hanging out here’, I was like, ‘I’m going to go back to LA, that’s where it’s at’.

‘But the more time I’ve spent here, my community of people and friends has grown and grown and grown, where it was lacking in LA. Community is vital about your overall wellbeing. Having friends is nice!’

It comes after Ashley enjoyed some quality time with her mother Peggy last month after she jetted over from the US for the first time in two years.

The pair appeared on the Heart FM breakfast show together, with Ashley saying on the programme: ‘Well, guess what I do love. The fact that I’ve got my mom in the house today.’

‘All the way from America, this is the first time she’s been over in the UK in a couple of years now. Two years!’
