A woman has detailed her traumatic experience with botched lip fillers, while imploring others to do their research before going under the needle.
Ashly Schwan, 20, from Los Angeles, California, took to her YouTube channel to share her story of getting lip fillers three times.
Explaining why she decided to get the procedure done, she explained: ‘Me being the crazy perfectionist that I am and just a young girl, I obviously look at myself all day especially because I practically work on social media and I just look at photos and photos of myself every day.
Ashly Schwan, 20, from Los Angeles, California, has taken to her YouTube channel to share her story of getting botched lip fillers
Pouty: Ashly revealed that she has had fillers three times now, but the first two times, the doctor used the wrong filler (pictured left in January 2018 and right before fillers)
Disappearing act: Instead of doing a proper consultation or asking her what she wanted, the doctor just applied the filler to her lips and it quickly disappeared after two months
‘My face has very strong features, I have big eyes, I have a big nose and I just had a small mouth. I had small lips. So I really just wanted to even out the proportions of my face and make everything on my face look even.’
Revealing that she was mostly concerned about her upper lip, Ashly explained that when she smiled her upper lip would ‘completely disappear’.
‘I practically had no upper lip on the sides, I only had a little bit right in the font,’ she added.
She also shared that because she loves to do makeup, she felt like she couldn’t experiment or ‘play with all the fun Kylie lip kits’ with her thin lips.
‘I just wanted to see what it would be like having lips for once so I did it and I’ve done it three times now and I’ll never go back,’ she admitted.
However, the first time Ashly went to get her lip injections, she went to a place her cousin recommended.
However when she arrived for her appointment, the doctor didn’t go through any sort of consultation process with her, explain what was going to happen or ask her what kind of look she wanted to achieve.
‘That’s definitely a huge thing to look for if you’re looking to get your lips done,’ she said.
Instead he simply inserted the injections into her lips after applying numbing cream and although Ashly wasn’t unhappy with the finished results, withing two months her lips fillers had disappeared and she was forced to return to the clinic once again.
Typically, lip fillers are supposed to last between nine to 12 months.
‘Go to a doctor who knows what they’re talking about, definitely go to someone that makes you feel comfortable and is clearly knowledgeable about what they’re doing,’ she added.
Thankfully, it was third times a charm for Ashly and after getting a recommendation from a friend, she went to Dr Sherly Soleiman at her practice The Cosmetics Injectables Center in Encino, California.
Revealing that the experience was totally different, Dr Soleiman took the time to explain to her the difference between all the different types of fillers, ranging in density and effect.
Unhappy: Despite the results she went back to the same doctor a second time, but her fillers disappeared quickly again
Third times a charm: Ashly went to a different doctor to get her third bout of lip fillers and shared how she’s had more success
Lip kit fan: Although she wanted to be able to experiment with Kylie lip kits, the blogger shared that she wasn’t looking for the same lip filler look as the reality star
Professional: She shared how her new doctor discussed all the different types of filler with her and didn’t cause any pain or bruising
Happy: Ashly is now finally happy with her plumped up pout and is looking forward to her fillers lasting for at least nine months
‘I didn’t even know that there was different fillers,’ Ashly admitted.
‘For me I just wanted to make my lips a little bit bigger and a little bit more pouty so she explained to me that the Juviderm Ultra Plus filler would be perfect for me because they’re a little bit puffy and they won’t lay down as flat as they did before ,and they’re still going to last a good amount of time.’
Dr Soleiman also revealed that Ashly most likely had the been given the weakest, most easily dissolved filler.
‘I didn’t want Kylie Jenner challenge lips or to look like a blow up doll and she assured me she would be able to make them look natural,’ Ashly said.
And she also shared how this experience felt totally different when it came to pain and recovery.
‘Personally I do have a pretty high pain tolerance but my friend was having a really hard time when we went to get them done before, but this time it was a zero or one out of ten because I was going to a doctor who knew what she was doing,’ she said of her experience with Dr Soleiman.
She added: ‘She didn’t even need to get numbing cream as the needles she uses are rounded rather than pointed like regular needles. She also puts numbing cream on the needle to directly numb the lip from the inside.’
Although Ashly was nervous she said it didn’t hurt at all and that the initial incision was the only slightly painful part.
‘As she inserted the needle I didn’t feel it, I started to make jokes and laugh,’ Ashly shared. ‘I couldn’t believe how much of an easy process this was because I went through hell before’.
Ashly received one syringe of filler in total, the amount of filler was divided into four quarters and distributed equally between her top and bottom lips.
For the first couple of days, Ashly said her lips were swollen but she didn’t have bruising except for the tiny pin prick and by day 14 they looked completely natural.
She concluded the vlog by sharing that she ‘could not be happier’ with the finished result.
